World University Championships
The World University Championships are international championship events conducted by the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU), the world governing body responsible for the organization and governance of global sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25. As part of its international championship structure, FISU conducts world championship events across a variety of sports while promoting both athletic excellence and academic achievement among university students worldwide.
The United States is officially represented in all FISU events by UniUSA, the national governing body responsible for promoting the development of international collegiate sport on an amateur basis. FISU’s mission is to promote sport and physical education among university students while encouraging student-athletes to successfully balance high-level athletic performance with their academic pursuits.
Marksmanship USA is proud to work in partnership with UniUSA to support and organize the participation of American student-athletes in the World University Championships. This page serves as the central information hub for athletes, coaches, and supporters seeking information regarding selection procedures, eligibility requirements, travel details, event updates, and delegation information for the upcoming championships.
Selection Procedures
Selection procedures for the World University Championships are administered separately for rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines, with each discipline maintaining its own event-specific criteria and ranking procedures. While the exact process varies by discipline, all selection pathways begin with performance at the collegiate level and allow athletes to supplement their consideration with qualifying scores achieved during the designated qualification window of August 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026.
Eligible athletes may submit scores from approved events including Junior Olympic Championships and USA Shooting selection matches in accordance with the published procedures for their discipline. For highest consideration and when possible, athletes are strongly encouraged to submit qualifying scores and expressions of interest by June 1, 2026.
Collegiate athletes are expected to consult with their coaches prior to committing to participation in the World University Championships delegation process. Initial invitations are expected to begin during the week of June 1, 2026, with early invitations based primarily on ranking and performance criteria. Following June 15, 2026, invitations may place increased emphasis on athlete interest, availability, and commitment to participation as delegation planning continues. The roster will be finalized on July 15th.Â
